Nokomis
beach is a public beach offering free parking, Life guard towers,
bath and changing facilities, and shaded picnic areas. This
island is also home to famous Casey Key and multi million dollar
mansions.
Most of these homes are both Gulf
and Bay front with a great deal of the island being less than 300
yards wide. Access to this key island is by only two bridges and
one is a must see. The northern bridge has an historic pivot bridge
dating back to 1920.
Spanish Point a few miles away to
the north is a 30 acre site which juts out into little Sarasota
Bay. Spanish Point was first habituated as early as 3,000 BC, as
evidenced by a prehistoric Claus Indian burial mound and two shell
mounds. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to walk these mounds
created centuries ago.
Oscar Scherer State Park is a 1384
acre sanctuary for native plants and animals located minutes from
Addy's entrance is on route 41. These Flatwoods are populated by
bald eagles, bobcats, tortoises, river otters and alligators. The
park features award winning barrier free nature trail which accommodates
people of all disabilities. Visitors enjoy hiking trails totaling
15 miles. |
